£12,397 saving and releasing 302.5 hours of a Senior Midwife's time by employing a clinical librarian to provide evidence to update 55 midwifery policies and guidelines. Collaborative working between maternity staff, governance staff, and the librarian ensured comprehensive and efficient evidence provision for the large number of maternity guidelines and policies within the Trust. "The library service has saved me an immeasurable amount of time over the last couple of years... they are able to find evidence where I think there is none to be found."

Trust Transfer Policy
Library and knowledge professionals from George Eliot Hospital worked with the Lead Practice Facilitator for Recruitment to provide an evidence base for a new policy on Transfer. This was required to address the difficulties which nurses have developing careers in small Trusts. After undertaking an evidence search, library staff also provided guidance on referencing and the appropriate layout. This resulted in the approval and implementation of the policy which is now in use and improving retention levels for Band 5 nurses in the Trust.

“The library service has been a tremendous help assisting me with getting the most up to date and accurate information to ensure the policies I have written are valid.”

Survey respondent, SWFT, 2022

“What I now know and understand is that as I need more information to develop planning, ideas and strategies, I can get this service from the Library. By developing a collaborative relationship with the library, I am able to be evidence based throughout my future career. Ultimately this will have a massive impact on patient safety.”
