How Do I… Borrow a Book?

We have both clinical and nonclinical textbooks available to browse and borrow, as well as wellbeing and fiction collections. With your Trust swipe card, you can visit the library and browse the shelves 24 hours a day.

Once you’ve registered with us, either in the library or online, you can borrow books at any time using the self-issue machine. Don’t forget your membership card or barcode!

During staffed hours, we will be more than happy to guide you to the right section and issue books at the enquiry desk.

Health Libraries Midlands (HeLM) and the library catalogue

You can browse all of our books in our online catalogue. The catalogue includes books in health libraries across the region, which are part of Health Libraries Midlands (HeLM). You can reserve any of these books online, and they will be sent across for you to pick up at George Eliot or Warwick Hospital – we’ll let you know when they’re ready for you to collect. Please note that books from other libraries can normally only be collected during staffed hours, unless you contact the library to make other arrangements.

If you only want to search for books that are available immediately, you can restrict your search results to your “home” library. If you are based at a Trust location other than George Eliot or Warwick Hospital, we can post books to your department.

As a library member you can borrow up to 16 books at a time. Most of our books can be borrowed for 6 weeks at a time, although some have a shorter loan period (these books are clearly labelled). As long as they are not reserved by another user, and your library membership does not expire, books on loan will automatically renew up to 5 times. We will let you know whether or not your books have been renewed.

Returning your books

Lost and overdue books

We do not charge fines for books that are a few days overdue. Please note, however, that we will try to contact you, and you will be charged the replacement cost of any books that are not returned. The sooner you are able to contact us, the better.

If you have lost a book, you may find that it is cheaper to buy a replacement copy yourself, but please ensure that this is the same edition or newer, and in good condition.

Recommending a book

Can’t find the book you need? We welcome suggestions of titles to add to our stock. If you’d like to recommend a book for us to buy, you can do so here.
